People who want to lose weight also consume foods rich in fiber to control weight gain and lower bad cholesterol level in the body. Whole grain consumption also increases glucose metabolism. People with lower blood glucose levels are less likely to develop periodontitis. It has also been found that people who are physically fit do not smoke or drink alcoholic drinks on a regular basis. We all know that tobacco products and alcohol are also bad for oral health and may cause severely stained teeth which look ugly.

In order to prevent cavities you are advised to decrease your intake of carbohydrates and sugars. These foods stick to our teeth and cause plaque. If this residue is not properly washed away by brushing and flossing, chances of gum disease and oral cavities become very high. It is therefore advised to drink lots of water throughout the day to wash these food particles away. Nowadays a number of products are available on the market for proper oral hygiene including electric brushes and water pick which have proven to be very beneficial.

One should also try to keep their stomach healthy in order to prevent oral disorders including gum disease. Apple and flaxseeds are not only good for suppressing appetite and controlling weight but they are also helpful in preventing constipation and other stomach problems. Since they are fiber-rich foods they are also excellent for our oral health. In addition to these, foods that contain large amounts of vitamin C and calcium also help in the prevention of gum disease.
