Teeth Whitening Monrovia and Duarte

Ice cream, cookies and steak. YUMMY! We all love sweets and delicious food, but, unfortunately, some of the most delicious foods are often responsible for serious health problems and can damage our teeth.

I know how important your appearance is to many aspects of your life. We all want to look and feel our best and sometimes the food we love can affect that.

That is why I am happy to offer teeth whitening to all of my Monrovia and Duarte patients!

How Do I Know If I Need Teeth Whitening?

Let’s face it, we all grow and age and our smiles were not as bright as they were when we were young. Natural aging is certainly a cause of having a less bright smile, but eating and drinking items like:

  • Coffee
  • Red wine
  • Berries
  • Pasta sauce

can attribute to discolored teeth with a yellowish shade that you aren’t proud to show off.

Smoking And Tooth Color

First, if you are a smoker, I highly recommend you quit! Smoking cannot only lead to yellow teeth, but also more serious conditions such as oral cancer. I offer complimentary oral cancer screenings when you come into our office, but again, you should really quit smoking.

Monrovia and Duarte patients who smoke cigarettes are very likely to have discolored teeth and need teeth whitening.

I Need Teeth Whitening. What next?

If you’re ready to receive teeth whitening, the first step is to schedule an appointment with my office in the Monrovia and Duarte area by calling (626) 599-9819. During your appointment, I will perform a thorough oral examination to determine if there are any other serious conditions that need to be addressed. During this appointment, I will also be looking to see if teeth whitening is right for you. You may find it hard to believe, but teeth whitening is not for all Monrovia and Duarte patients! This includes:

  • Patients under 16 years old. This is because the teeth (and its roots) are still developing and are more sensitive to whitening.
  • Women who are pregnant or lactating. While there are no studies proving or disproving the effect on the child, it’s better to remain safe and perform teeth whitening after pregnancy.
  • Patients who have gum disease, thin enamel, cavities or infections. While patients whiten their teeth after getting cavities or other dental problems corrected, if you have gum disease or thin enamel, then you will have increased tooth sensitivity that outweighs the benefit of whitening.

After the exam, I will review the benefits and rare risks of teeth whitening so that you fully understand everything before committing to whitening. I want to make sure you’re fully aware of everything before committing to having your teeth whitened!

What Happens During The Procedure?

Once you and I decide that teeth whitening is right for you, our friendly staff will schedule an appointment to have the procedure done in our office in the Monrovia and Duarte area. The entire treatment will last one hour. However, I may recommend a few additional sessions depending on how many shades whiter you want your teeth to be.

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure that will not require any anesthesia, local or otherwise. Once you settle into our comfortable dental chairs, I will begin the procedure by:

  • Placing trays with a gel mixture of hydrogen peroxide and bleach into your mouth.
  • Accelerating the process with light and power to enhance results.
  • Remove the trays after 20-30 minutes, depending on the shade you would like to achieve.

I would love to be able to say there is no downside with teeth whitening, but some patients will have sensitive teeth, which can be quite uncomfortable. This feeling is only temporary and will go away in a few hours or days.

How Often Can I Whiten My Teeth?

While we all want beautiful, white teeth all year long, I recommend that you do not overuse teeth whitening. At your appointment, I will work with you to determine a whitening schedule that enhances your teeth’s appearance while maintaining a healthy smile.
